“To vote or Not to Vote?”

Good day to everyone,  Adrian here and I’m about to bring another topic in this second blog entry of the “Hard-Knocked Life”.  First of all, I would like to thank those who suggested an interesting topic through my Facebook, Friendster and Twitter account, luckily I have already picked one. I dedicated this blog to the old-timers and the first-timer voters who will cast their votes  in the 2010 National Elections this one’s for you..:)

As we all know, the 2010 National Elections is fast approaching and once  again the “vox populi” will cast again their votes to those who really deserve to govern the country.

However, in this past days I noticed some political ads of some presidential  and senatorial candidates and what do you expect? The same old gibberish promises that was never accomplished or done.  There are candidates who promise that they are for the masses (“para sa mga mahihirap”), they will fight corruption (“lalabanan ang corruption”) and will bring jobs for all (“trabaho para sa lahat”).  In truth and in fact, the number one problem of our country as of today is poverty (homeless, hunger and jobless), the Philippines is now ranked number one in terms of graft and corruption and there are many people who are laid-off and unemployed. Isn’t it ironic? do you think?

We all noticed that some candidates are using the same motto “Para sa Mahirap”.  Hindi ba parang gasgas at palasak na ang mottong ito? Kung sana nga lang ay nagbubunga at nangyayari ngunit hindi naman. Hindi ba magandang sabihin na lang na  ang isang kandidato ay para sa lahat mapamayaman at mapamahirap.

In addition, they (the candidates) also have this TV jingles using street children, celebrities and even a jumbo jet (hmmmmm, candidates today know how to market themselves just to encourage the people to vote for them). If  you want to watch these campaign jingles browse you-tube.  I should say that I find it very funny and hilarious when I watched their campaign jingles hehehehehehe.

Personally, I do not hold a grudge to the candidates nor discouraging voters not to vote because I believe that to vote is one of our basic rights, so that the people will be heard.

In my point of view,  let us not be fooled by popularity and flowery words.  We must set a criterion to vote the rightful and deserving leaders who will take us to the top and not to shame.

Let me share to you some criteria in choosing the right one in the coming elections.

• God-fearing
• Good track record in terms of leadership and governance
• Graft and Corruption free
• Must stick to his/her principles and must not be influence by others
• An advocate of the human rights

I hope that in someway this criteria might help our newbie voters and event old timers to vote and choose wisely come May 2010. Until then, if you have any comments just let me know…Thank You and God Bless, Adrian here, Signing off.
